The British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the British Association for Hand Therapy are proud to host the joint congress of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand and International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy in London 2022. We are organising this with the IFSSH and the IFSHT in collaboration with the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand.
We will include all of the current major topics in hand surgery in the scientific programme, as well as some new ones. We will be running an instructional course through the meeting the topic for which will be "Tendon problems in the hand and wrist". There will be interactive case-based debates on contentious issues, workshops and invited lectures from renowned international experts. This will be an unrivalled opportunity for exchange of ideas between hand surgeons, therapists, trainees and students, with sessions open to both surgeons and therapists. Please send in your abstracts so that we can share your experience.
London is one of the great cities of the world. Visitors can enjoy London’s stunning historical architecture, world-renowned scientific and cultural museums (all of which are free to enter) and some of the most iconic landmarks in the world. London’s “West End” is famous for its shopping, food and above all its theatre scene. Alongside Broadway in New York, West End theatre represents the highest quality theatre in the world. The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden is home to The Royal Opera, as well as The Royal Ballet.
The congress venue is in the Docklands area of the city. ExCeL is an exhibitions and international convention centre in Custom House area of Canning Town, East London. It is located on a 100-acre site on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands, between Canary Wharf and London City Airport. We have excellent conference facilities, a diverse range of accommodation and unrivalled international accessibility. London is also an ideal base from which to explore the rest of the UK and Europe.
We invite you to come and disseminate and assimilate knowledge, to share new ideas, meet new friends and old from all over the world and, above all, to celebrate our wonderful specialty that is Hand Surgery.
We look forward to welcoming you to London in 2022.

The successful hosting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games put London in the world’s spotlight. London continues to reinvent itself through continued investment and the creation of new attractions, venues and facilities.
ExCeL Conference Centre
ExCeL Centre London, which was one of the venues for the London 2012 Olympic Games, is one of the most advanced conference facilities in the world. It benefits from accessibility, stunning but functional architecture and state-of-the-art communication facilities. These attributes, as well as peerless educational display facilities make it the ideal venue. Its layout is perfectly suited for a mixture of academic sessions, plenary, breakout and parallel.
Crucially, the venue has ample space for exhibitors.
London’s Eastside offers everything required to host a successful event.
Both international and domestic visitors are well served by the award winning London City Airport. Located five minutes to the East of ExCeL London, the airport operates 350 flights a day to 30 key destinations, including New York, Frankfurt, Paris and Madrid. The transformation of the area East of Tower Bridge has created an ‘EVENTS DISTRICT’ offering not only the facilities at ExCeL London but fantastic new hotels, excellent transport links and an impressive variety of social and entertainment venues.
Europe’s largest urban shopping centre, Westfield Stratford City, is located 10 minutes from ExCeL London. The site has over 300 shops, as well as a 14-screen cinema and two hotels. Westfield Stratford City is adjacent to the 2012 Olympic Park & Stadium and is well connected via the Docklands Light Railway, London Underground and Stratford International Station, with Cross-rail services planned from 2018.
To the West of ExCeL London is Canary Wharf, the second largest financial district in Europe and home to the UK’s tallest building. Over 100,000 people work there, with over 200 shops, bars and restaurants. To the South, is the World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich, home to historic sites including the National maritime museum and the Royal Observatory. Greenwich is also the location for one of Europe’s leading entertainment destinations – the O2 Arena.
